Stone Mesa
Up Getin Down Sit Here N Drink

Southern Swing Country Rock

Having breakfast one early spring morning with my girlfriend,

I spied an Ole cowboy at the other end of the counter.

He smiled and nodded back at me.

I was wearing a cowboy hat and boots, along with two other customers. The rest of the restaurant was filled with a bunch of farmers

in there baseball hats and coveralls.

After finishing breakfast, one of the strangers in a cowboy hat strolled over to our table and said howdy tipping his hat.

He said that he had a feeling  that we were supposed to meet and that his name was Kentucky.

He was up here shoeing horses, but also played guitar and fiddle.

I told him that my name was Scotty, and owned a recording studio.

"It's out in the country, on the edge of town."

When we got back, to Morning Star studio, I called some of the guys who worked on projects with me.

I told them of my intentions to play some good ole country music.

So after some serious get down on it, Stone Mesa came into being.

We played local country bars, pig roasts, and a few summer resorts.

We were all having a real good time when I got a call.

It was from a booking agency, in Arizona,

asking if we would like to play a gig at the

Metro center, in Rockford Il.For Snickers Candy Bars.

Of course I said yes. They had the stage set up outside and had us play to all of downtown Rockford. Admission was free.

We had Kentucky, play acoustic guitar and sing, in between sets.

It was good seeing him move so freely among the crowd.

It went over very well. We all had a lot of fun.

When it started getting real cold, one exceptionally

frosty afternoon, Kentucky dropped by.

I could tell something was troubling him, by the tilt of his hat. I said what’s up dude? I can see something’s bothering you.

He said you aren’t to long on words Scotty, you cut right to the quick.

So here it is. I cant take the weather up here, I’m a going home.

Being brought up in the south myself,

I knew just what he was talking about!

As fast as he came into our lives, he was gone.

None of us have heard from him since. It was a good time ,and the music still sounds good. So here’s sharing it with you. Enjoy it, as much as we enjoyed playing it.

Happy Trails to all COWBOYS & COWGIRLS.

Where ever you maybe,

"keep your powder dry, and your nose to the wind."
